Sustainability by Design
In recent years, a sustainability initiative has been underway with a clear objective: to significantly reduce plastics and other non-value adding materials in both products and packaging - while fully maintaining the high quality and performance our customers expect.
Setting Clear Design Principles Early in Development
One of the most impactful changes has been the introduction of sustainability “ground rules” at the very start of new development projects. This has meant systematically challenging traditional design choices and replacing them where feasible. Examples below.
- Replacing metal cable bundling with paper type.
- Replacing plastic bags and plastic tags with paper bags and tags.
Balancing Sustainability, Quality, and Total Cost
Sustainability improvements are never implemented at the expense of product performance, reliability, or customer experience. All design and material changes are evaluated holistically, taking quality and total cost into account.
Lower cost materials are not automatically preferable if they compromise durability, usability, or long-term value. This balanced approach ensures that sustainability initiatives strengthen both lifecycle performance and customer satisfaction.

Printed Documentation
Printed documentation is avoided unless legally required. Wherever possible, digital alternatives, and QR code links, are provided.
To prevent unnecessary scrapping, all documentation is reviewed, aligned, and approved within each project before printing orders are placed.

Lighter Packages, Lower Transport Impact
Each project is an opportunity to reduce the total weight of packaged products. Even small weight reductions contribute to lower transport emissions when scaled across large shipment volumes.

Product Accessories: What Adds Value?
For each product, we ask: “What accessories are really needed?”
Decisions are based on quality, functionality, cost, and customer value. Simple accessories, such as lens cleaning cloths, can provide high customer value with minimal environmental and financial impact.
Key inputs to such decisions include legal and regulatory requirements, service data and customer feedback, and evolving sustainability expectations.
Our aim is to eliminate non-value adding, high impact materials such as offset color printing and unnecessary plastics.

Packaging Redesign: Plastic Reduction at Scale
Several major packaging changes have resulted in significant plastic reduction:
Hard cases with plastic inserts are being phased out or redesigned. For a firefighter camera launched in 2025, the has resulted in a plastic reduction of 2.2 kg per unit. With a forecasted volume of 6,000 units per year, this change corresponds to approximately 13,200 kg of avoided plastic annually.
Accessory boxes have transitioned from glossy offset printed designs to more sustainable packaging alternatives.
Plastic bags for cables are no longer permitted in camera or accessory boxes.
High volume product families such as Flir One® / Cx-Series have transitioned from traditional white boxes to pulp based packaging.
Collectively, these changes reduce material use, improve recyclability, and lower the environmental footprint of each shipped unit, fully aligned with broader packaging reduction ambitions.

Yearly Compilation of Lifecycle Data for Täby Facility
Since March 21st 2023, all purchased electricity is environmentally declared hydropower (EPDs) from Vattenfall.
Bio oil is used when needed to support the heat up of building. Flir Systems AB is participating in the Swedish Energy Agency’s “Program for Improving Energy Efficiency in Energy-Intensive Industries” in which we are required to perform an energy review every four years (last reporting made 2024).
The energy review is a useful tool for identifying new measures to improve energy efficiency at the site.

Responsible Sourcing and Supplier Expectations
General policy
We are committed to responsible business conduct throughout its value chain. We conduct our operations in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and uphold high standards of ethics, integrity, and respect. These principles form the basis of our sustainability approach and apply equally to our suppliers and business partners.
We expect our suppliers, contractors, agents, consultants, and distributors to operate in a manner consistent with our values and requirements. This includes compliance with all applicable laws, respect for internationally recognized human and labor rights, and responsible management of health, safety, and working conditions.
Code of Conduct
All suppliers are required to comply with our Code of Conduct for Service Providers, which defines our minimum expectations with respect to ethical business practices, labor standards, health and safety, and responsible conduct. The Code is based on internationally recognized frameworks, including the Fair Labor Association Workplace Code of Conduct and the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC) Code of Conduct.
Supplier due diligence is an integral part of our sourcing process.
Prior to entering into a business relationship, suppliers are systematically reviewed, and adherence to the Code of Conduct for Service Providers is a mandatory prerequisite. Suppliers share responsibility for implementing ethical and lawful practices within their own operations.
Continuous Improvements and Corrective Actions
We are committed to continuous improvement and expect our suppliers to actively address identified risks and non-compliances. Where deviations from our requirements are identified, we engage with suppliers to implement corrective actions. Failure to meet our standards may result in further follow-up or other appropriate measures.
Through these expectations and processes, Teledyne aims to promote responsible sourcing practices and contribute to safe, fair, and humane working conditions across our supply chain.

EcoVadis Assessment and Continuous Improvement
We have been awarded a Bronze medal by EcoVadis. This recognition confirms that our sustainability practices are structured, documented, and aligned with international recognized expectations.
Sustainability is an integral part of our core business and long-term value creation.
The EcoVadis assessment is an important management tool for us, helping to identify strengths, highlight gaps, and guide prioritized improvement actions across the organization.
Our ambition to improve our rating is supported by ongoing work within key areas such as environmental management, governance, employee well‑being, and responsible business conduct.
We actively use structured management systems, including ISO‑based processes, internal audits, and action tracking, to ensure that sustainability initiatives are embedded in daily operations.
We also see increasing customer and stakeholder expectations related to EcoVadis as a clear signal that sustainability performance is directly linked to competitiveness, credibility, and market access.
We will continue to strengthen our data quality, expand performance indicators, and further integrate sustainability criteria into decision-making processes.
Product End-of-Life Management
We are committed to the responsible management of products throughout their lifecycle, including compliance with regulations governing recycling and end of life treatment of electrical and electronic equipment. Proper waste management is an important part of our environmental responsibility and contributes to the protection of human health and the environment.
Within the European Union, electrical and electronic equipment is managed in accordance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive, which aims to reduce environmental and health impacts associated with electronic waste through appropriate collection, treatment, recycling, and recovery.
All applicable Flir products are marked with the crossed out wheeled bin-symbol, indicating that they must not be disposed of as unsorted household waste. Instead, such products are to be collected and treated through approved WEEE recycling systems.
Through clear product marking, regulatory compliance, and support for established recycling schemes, we aim to ensure that electronic waste is handled responsibly at end of life. These measures support resource efficiency, reduce environmental risks, and contribute to the circular economy.
At our Täby site, all waste streams are managed by our certified recycling contractor PreZero. Hazardous waste is reported by PreZero in accordance with national requirements to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (Naturvårdsverket).
Compliance with WEEE, battery, and packaging waste regulations across Europe is supported through the Sphera EC4P system, which is used to monitor regulatory obligations and reporting requirements.
