Flir Systems AB is a Swedish subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated, headquartered in Thousand Oaks, California, USA. As a Teledyne brand since 2021, Flir operates globally and employs more than 3,000 people worldwide. Approximately 500 of Teledyne’s total workforce of around 14,500 employees and consultants are based at the Täby site in Sweden.

Operations and value chain

At the Täby site, Flir Systems AB conducts product development, research activities, camera assembly, and advanced optical manufacturing, including a world-class, fully integrated lens production facility. Production primarily consists of high-precision assembly and manufacturing of optical components, supported by extensive testing and quality control processes. Flir Systems AB develops and produces products within two of Teledyne’s business segments:

Solutions and Surveillance, with the Solutions segment headquartered in Täby.

Products are delivered through multiple sales channels, including customer-specific development projects, contractual production, distribution partners, and online and catalog-based sales.

Täby also hosts major customer- and market-focused operations, as well as essential support functions such as Business & Quality Assurance, Export Control, Service and Support, Human Resources, IT, and Finance. These activities are carried out within a large, multifunctional facility that requires ongoing maintenance and resource efficiency management.

Daily operations involve significant flows of people, materials, and goods in and out of the site.

The Täby site is supported by well-developed public transportation infrastructure, including proximity to the Roslagsbanan railway and the Täby Arninge public transport hub, enabling sustainable commuting. Many employees also choose to cycle to work, supported by well-maintained cycle paths throughout the year.

Flir Systems AB is certified according to ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management, ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management and since May 2025 to ISO 27001:2022 for Information Security.

Product development and manufacturing are carried out in accordance with stringent regulatory and customer-specific requirements, including standards such as ATEX, Hazloc, NFPA, and military specifications. For consumer and high-volume markets, the focus is on scalable, efficient production while maintaining high quality and compliance standards.

In addition, Flir operates an established Infrared Training Center, which for decades has certified thermographers at multiple levels, contributing to knowledge transfer, safe application of technology, and professional competence within the industry.

Integrated Management System: IMS

Flir Systems AB maintains three ISO-certified management systems that together form an Integrated Management System (IMS).

An IMS brings together different standards under a unified structure, allowing an organization to operate with improved effectiveness, better control over risks, and a simplified approach to compliance and continuous improvement.

By operating ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 27001 within a single governance structure, Flir Systems AB achieves synergies in auditing, management reviews, and continuous improvement.

Through regular assessment of our environmental footprint, we identify and prioritize the focus areas that guide our sustainability initiatives each year. The overarching goal is to minimize our environmental impact by systematically addressing our most significant impacts through measurable objectives and transparent follow-up.

Follow-Up and Governance

Consistent with ISO 14001, we regularly evaluate our environmental management system through internal and external audits. These audits verify that requirements are met and identify improvement opportunities; findings result in corrective actions that are tracked to completion. This audit-and-correct cycle is a defining feature of the PDCA approach and provides evidence of continuous improvement.

Environmental performance and progress toward objectives are reported to senior management twice per year. On these occasions, top management formally reviews the EMS’s effectiveness, progress against environmental objectives, and alignment with overall strategy, ensuring strong governance and clear accountability. A dedicated Business & Quality Assurance team coordinates and follows up on environmental initiatives to drive implementation across the organization.

Promoting Low-Carbon Ways of Working

To reduce emissions from business travel, we encourage employees to minimize non-essential trips and to use digital collaboration tools—including video conferencing and digital document signing—as the default. By substituting travel with virtual meetings where feasible, we reduce transportation-related emissions and increase efficiency without compromising business effectiveness. This initiative complements our broader climate strategy and reflects our commitment to reducing Scope 3 (business travel) emissions.

External Benchmarking

Flir Systems AB undergoes regular EcoVadis sustainability assessments, which benchmark our environmental and social practices against global best practices. EcoVadis provides a structured framework for consistently evaluating sustainability performance and driving year-on-year progress through its annual reassessment cycle and periodically updated scoring criteria. Feedback from EcoVadis results helps us identify strengths and areas for further improvement, reinforcing our cycle of continuous enhancement.

Energy Efficiency Facility

We monitor energy consumption and associated emissions in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol.

Since March 21, 2023, all purchased electricity is environmentally declared hydropower (EPDs) from Vattenfall. Bio oil is used when needed to support the heat up of building. Flir Systems AB is participating in the Swedish Energy Agency’s “Program for Improving Energy Efficiency in Energy-Intensive Industries” in which we are required to perform an energy review every four years (last reporting made 2024). The energy review is a useful tool for identifying new measures to improve energy efficiency at the site.

CSRD: Reflection from the Journey So Far

Working through the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) has been one of the most challenging sustainability programmes we have undertaken, but also one of the most instructive.

While CSRD is often discussed as a reporting obligation, our experience at Teledyne has shown that it is fundamentally about changing how the organisation thinks about sustainability and how impacts, risks and opportunities are integrated into the way the business operates. Across Europe, including sites such as Täby, this shift is already influencing how sustainability is managed and delivered at a local level.

A major milestone in this journey was the completion of our double materiality assessment (DMA), considering both our impacts on people and the environment, alongside the financial risks and opportunities these create. Taking a structured, top-down approach allowed us to focus first on what genuinely matters, rather than becoming absorbed in the mechanics of reporting. This has provided a clear and defensible foundation for our CSRD scope, while also helping build stronger alignment across the business.

Although Teledyne falls into Wave 4 of CSRD reporting, with formal obligations commencing later than some organisations, we have deliberately maintained momentum. Starting early has allowed us to build capability, improve data quality and reduce delivery risk, rather than reacting to regulatory deadlines. In practice, treating CSRD as a long-term programme rather than a compliance exercise has proven far more effective.

This approach has delivered tangible progress, particularly in emissions reporting. Over the past three years, we have worked with Normative to strengthen greenhouse gas reporting and improve consistency across the organisation. This has enabled us to map both upstream and downstream Scope 3 emission categories, providing greater visibility of value chain impacts. It has also helped clarify data ownership, improve traceability, and establish more repeatable processes capabilities that are critical as assurance expectations increase. We are now using Normative as our ESG reporting platform to support centralised data collection and delivery of a CSRD-compliant report.

One of the clearest lessons so far is that data readiness remains the most challenging aspect of CSRD. The level of structure, traceability and assurance expected, particularly for Scope 3 and value chain disclosures—requires continuous engagement across the organisation. At the same time, CSRD continues to evolve, meaning flexibility and judgement are as important as robust planning.

While the effort involved has been significant, it is already delivering value by strengthening governance, improving transparency, and reinforcing the link between sustainability performance and long-term business resilience. As the regulation matures, our focus remains on ensuring that our approach is proportionate, practical, and integrated so that sustainability reporting supports better decision-making across the business, including at site level.
